Astarte rugata

Astarte rugata is a type of Bivalve found in the London Clay, often preserved in pyrite as seen on the right. 

As you can see from the image, it is quite susceptible to pyrite decay and often needs to be treated quickly to avoid deterioration. 

It has been recorded at the Sheppey London Clay sites.
